More U.S. Korean War Remains Found
More Than 8,100 U.S. Soldiers Missing Since War

POSTED: 12:41 p.m. EST October 27, 2002

SEOUL, South Korea -- The U.S. military says it appears more American remains from the Korean war have been found in North Korea.

Officials say the 11 sets of remains believed to be those of U.S. soldiers killed in the 1950-53 conflict will be repatriated this week.

The U.S. military command in Seoul says the remains will be flown from the North's capital of Pyongyang to a U.S. base in Japan on Tuesday.

Joint U.S. and Korean teams recovered the remains about 60 miles north of Pyongyang, where battles were fought in 1950.

The coming repatriation marks the last of this year's operations.

More than 8,100 U.S. soldiers are still missing from the Korean War. Joint operations with the North Koreans have recovered 178 sets of remains since 1996, with 13 sets positively identified and returned to their families.
