All Chamberlain did was to to double check that a peacable solution wasn't possible. He did a good job. Appeasment was shown not to work. That was not his fault though. Nobody in the government trashed him for it at the time either. It was just reality setting in. The USA wanted out of the war even when Chamberlain changed his mind when Hitler invaded Poland.
