Can you comment off the top of your head on plans/progress related to the The Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River?

I'm interested in planned synergies- ie

+ possible uses of the hydro power for smelting?
+ do ore (types?) deposits exist in close proximity or with low transport costs?
+ plans to create local light and heavy mfg industry (such as auto's, rail transport cars, rail stock and what not)?

Is it perceived cheaper to move the power or the minerals/finished goods?

How much benefit might remain for additional investments in basic infrastructure (rail lines, cars and locomotives, water & sewer pipelines)?

How much imported oil/LNG might the completion displace?

How much could/will inexpensive hydro power deflate basic materials prices? And primarily which basic materials? (ie Iron, Nickel, Aluminum (bauxite), Copper).

Some of this I'm sure can be found with some effort on my part, so while I appreciate your perspective, I'd not want you to spend much effort educating such a simple tribe member of this planet.
