NOVANET selects Geac's GeoWeb

MARKHAM, ONTARIO--Geac Computer Corporation Limited is pleased to
announce that NOVANET Inc. in Halifax, Nova Scotia has signed an
agreement with Geac Canada Limited to purchase Geac's GeoWeb
software on a DEC Alpha Server. GeoWeb is the latest in the Geos2
line of z39.50 based client server applications for Libraries
supporting USMARC record structure with browse and keyword
capability, ability to search single, multiple and ADVANCE subset
databases and email bibliography result sets. Novanet's
implementation will target staff access for January 1998.

The agreement follows an extensive review process that included a
structured comparison of the GeoWeb product against the
competition. Geac will provide an unlimited access GeoWeb software
licence for the Novanet student and staff population running on a
DEC Alpha 800 server positioned initially for support of up to 50
simultaneous accesses.

Novanet Inc. is a Halifax based Consortia of Nova Scotia Academic
Libraries formed in 1987 for the purpose of enhancing access to
information and knowledge through cooperation among the member
institutions for the benefit of their user communities. The eight
universities involved in the Novanet Consortium include the
Atlantic School of Theology, Dalhousie University, Mount Saint
Vincent University, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design,
Saint Mary's University, St. Francis Xavier University, the

College.

"We are very proud that Novanet, having established itself as an
industry leader with it's high degree of technical and
Professional Library expertise have chosen Geac's GeoWeb product
above all others" said Marcel Bernard , executive Vice-President
of Geac. "The technology comprising the GeoWeb product is by far
the best means available on the market today for distributed
access to the Library's catalogue. Indeed, the Library achieves
even wider database access taking advantage of z39.50 standard
databases over the Internet."
