home network ...

in the past I've use several differing methods ....
all have been more or less satisfactory ....

now, with the cost of wireless below what I spent for my first hardwired several years ago, I'm contemplating a whole new setup
and
am seeking opinions/advice from the CL thread ======

here are the contemplated network boxes ....

Gateway p4 1.8 WinXP home
Dell p4 1.2 WinME
Dell p4 1.2 Win98se
homemade p3 933 Win98se

Toshiba Cable modem using Cox as provider

checking at various places it seems that I can purchase the individual box cards for around 30 bucks
and
the DSL/Cable router for around 100 bucks

any words of wisdom from the thread ****(lurkers feel free to jump in, too)
