christine - the land is both a blessing and a responsibility; a haven to come to and something that needs you when you might rather be somewhere else. like in a cafe drinking endless cups of latte and writing poetry while watching the rain through the window. but it's been my haven, and now i'm trying to do my part. your mother sounds very adventurous(sic)! i'm glad i missed the chicken in the kitchen scene. reminds me of my days at the chicken plant. i've never been to seattle but i always figured i'd like the weather. i love it when rains for days on end. quess i'm just a depressing, grungy sort.<g> it rained 2 1/2 inches here today which brought me back to life. hadn't rained in two weeks. and the sun gets on my nerves after a few days. so bright and all. ugh. the only good thing about it is getting a tan and wearing my tattoos. so i'm not quite sure if your garden is real or a story you hope becomes real? jp
