Those are sad lyrics.

I know next to nothing about popular music, at least that which was popular after the doo wop style passed. <g> And I've rarely been able to understand the lyrics when they're sung so I tend not to pay attention to them. I've skimmed some of the song lyrics that have been posted here and have been surprised to find how complex they are.

So when I listened to this album, I was surprised at how simple the lyrics are. Most of the songs are just a few lines repeated over and over with variation not in the words but in the instrumentation or other aspects of the sound. Like I said, don't know enough about the stuff to form any conclusions from that. Just struck me as odd.
