Hi Ike - thank you for the comments. I have just started trying to understand Islam.
My son is studying Arabic at a local Islamic institute. I was surprised to find out that they hand out what I would call "hate speech," although it is consistent with Wahhabism. They did not give the literature to my son, and have always been very polite to him, but he is the only non-Muslim in the class.
After reading about Wahhabism, I wonder how it is possible for Muslims and non-Muslims to coexist peacefully on this planet.
As you know, the Koran says this: "[2.62] Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve."
But, as you posted, there are other parts of the Koran which are not so accepting, and it's hard to reconcile.
Well, I just started reading, and so far it's very interesting.
I did learn something interesting, that Mohammed called Christians "polytheists" because they believe in the Trinity. I've always been confused by the Trinity myself. I believe that there is only one God, but the nature of God is unknowable by man. God is too vast, and we are too small, so arguing about God doesn't make any sense to me. |
