Hi LindyBill; Re the Berretta and the military. There is essentially zero military significance to pistols. I'd love to find statistics on how many (enemy) soldiers actually end up shot with the things. My guess is that it would be damn close to zero. Their primary use is in keeping one's own troops in line. (There are exceptions, who was the guy in WW1 who captured a German company while armed only with a .45?) The things to worry about are stuff like the Crusader artillery. My understanding of the Berretta was that it won a grueling competition between various pistols, but the whole idea was to convert to a NATO round. -- Carl P.S. It is a hilarious description of one of the pistol's issues: Trigger springs broke often and we lost quite a few takedown lever studs and springs. This little beauty would fly out, never to be found, and on the next round fired, the takedown lever would fall down and the entire top-side would be launched down range.
