Chirac calls for EU telecom rescue plan Marc van Impe Nordic Wireless Watch - October 28, 2002 at 09:24 GMT Last Friday, at the end of a two-day summit of European leaders [October 25], French President Jacques Chirac called for a rescue plan for the European Union's heavily-indebted telecom industry. He asked the leaders to come to a European policy, with proposals to be filed next March. President Chirac said that the auctions for next generation mobile telecom licences were scandalous and they caused the European telecom operators to lose their world leading spot.
