Asbury Park Press Endorses Doug

"The court bought the Democrats’ argument that they had to provide the voters
with a choice. But their new nominee has been an abject failure at that task.
Lautenberg has spent most of his time attacking Forrester, while being generally
unresponsive to questions and giving the voters little clues about what he would
do in the Senate this time...

"New Jersey deserves a better campaign and more focused vision. Forrester has
responded well to that challenge. He pledges to bring home more of the tax
dollars the state sends to Washington, something the Democrats who have
represented the state in the Senate for two decades have failed to do...

"Lautenberg is pandering to the state’s senior citizens, boasting of his support
of Social Security and Medicare while hiding from his sorry record on issues that affect older Americans. He helped create the tax on Social Security
benefits that hits 400,000 in New Jersey...

"So much of Forrester’s platform is right for New Jersey and for the nation. He
would add a moderate voice to the Republican side of the aisle just when it is
needed most."

Courier Post Endorses Doug, Again

"Even with Torricelli out of the race, voters are best served by Forrester...

"Our support for Forrester remains strong, for a number of reasons.

"The Democrats' ballot switcharoo is simply sleazy. Should voters have the
opportunity to vote for a viable Democratic candidate? Sure. Without one, it
wouldn't have been much of a race. But that candidate should have been
Torricelli.

"The voters should keep in mind how Frank Lautenberg's name got on the ballot
and vote accordingly - especially given Lautenberg's reluctance to meet
Forrester in one-on-one debates.

"The voters also should take a look at where Forrester stands on the issues.
They will find a candidate who advances common-sense ideas and a solid base of
conservatism.

"Forrester has put national defense at the forefront of his campaign… Beyond
that, Forrester supports allowing parents the right to remove their children
from schools that are not providing a decent education and ending social
promotion. His plans for health care are rooted in patient choice, market
competition and reducing bureaucracy.

"Forrester is quick to point out the unfair tax burdens placed on N.J. residents
and supports permanent tax reduction to help the economy. He also promises a
watchful eye when it comes to congressional pork-barrel projects."

New York Post Endorses Doug

"While Lautenberg has engaged in traditional Democratic demagoguery, seeking to demonize Forrester on the usual hot-button social issues like abortion, the
Republican has wisely focused on more substantive – and important – issues.

"Specifically, he's honed in on the sharp, and disturbing, difference in the two
candidates' records on national security:

"Forrester has campaigned as an unabashed supporter of President Bush's War on
Terrorism.

"Lautenberg, on the other hand, has a woeful record, having opposed the 1991
Gulf War (on the grounds that it would produce "tens of thousands of American
casualties"), voted to freeze or cut defense and intelligence spending – and
opposed the death penalty for terrorists.

"Lautenberg now says he's reversed his position on all of those issues.

"Sure, why not – the election comes but 14 short months after 9/11, and New
Jersey was hard-hit by the sneak attack.

"But it won't take Lautenberg long to revert to form, should he return to the
Senate."
