The Minnesota Democrats are sweating blood with their backs to the wall. There's a Senate seat at stake, and Wellstone is gone. That's the reality, pure and simple. The Republicans KNOW that the Dem propagandists will try to make a political circus out of any "memorial" service that is held for Wellstone.

So the Republicans-rather than roll over ala Bob Dole-are FIGHTING. They have a poll showing that Mondale isn't very hot. They are demanding debates. The Democrats are tied in knots.

Keep 'em there. There's a Senate seat at stake, and Wellstone is gone. And that's the reality, pure and simple...
