Flag Resources (1985) Limited - Cobalt Hill

CALGARY, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - Dr. Eva Schandle, Geological Consultant,
Research Associate (Department of Geology, University of Toronto) recently
completed the fourth report in her fourteen month study, which includes fluid
inclusion, mineralogical studies and re-evaluation of drill logs from 12 drill
holes on Flag Resources Cobalt Hill properties in Mackelcan Township,
Wanapitei Anomaly, Sudbury, Ontario.
In her studies, Dr. Schandle noted that the ubiquitous presence and
predominance of nickel bearing sulfides and chalcopyrite inclusions in the
pyrite rich quartz veins at Colbalt Hill suggests that the hyper-saline fluids
that precipitated the metals must have been nickel and copper rich. The
percentage of nickel in the small nickel bearing inclusions in pyrite is as
follows: pentlandite: 35-39%, bravoite: 36-62% and gersdorffite: 35-39%.
In her studies, Dr. Schandle points out that the presence of fuchsite
(chromium rich muscovite) in the quartz, plus pyrite veins, implies that the
source of the metals is probably a mineralized mafic/ultramafic intrusion at
1200-2200 feet, corresponding to the depth of the fuchfit bearing quartz
veins, increasing from 1200 feet to below 2200 feet, then abruptly
disappearing. The projected mafic/ultramafic source is likely to be nearby, as
chromium is an immobile element, unlikely to have moved far from its source.
On the basis of her present fluid inclusion and earlier mineralogical
studies, Dr. Schandle considers Cobalt Hill to have an excellent potential for
Sudbury type mineralization.
Flag notes that although pyrite-rich quartz veins and the breccia zone
extends 1000 feet north-west to the western edges of the Jess Lake gold
deposit, there has been no assaying for nickel and copper nor drilling below
1100 feet, beyond Colbalt Hill.
It is the largest area of mineralization on Flag's 70,000 acre holding in
the Wanapitei Anomaly.
Flag is proposing to drill a 2000 foot deep drill hole (pending assaying
and geophysical work) to intersect the projected nickel, copper and gold
mineralized mafic/ultramafic intrusion, estimated to be between 1200 and 2200
feet deep.
Prior to drilling, Flag is waiting for the results of a 2400-foot deep
geophysical probe, in drill hole CH92-1, at Colbalt Hill, to pinpoint the
location of the projected mineralized mafic/ultramafic intrusion.
