Bob, there's been a lot of cost cutting. Profits for some firms have risen compared to a yr ago. This is mainly due to lowering expenses rather than increasing sales. One man's expense is another mans sales. Those cost cuttin exercises dont just cut costs. They cut employment and revenues of suppliers. That reduces the market for the goods of the company that just cut their own costs.

Henry Ford knew that he could sell mass produced cars to his workers if his workers were paid well.
