10/24/02 09:30 am EDT... S&P REITERATES AVOID AXT INC. (AXTI 1.2**): AXT posts Q3 loss per share of $0.26, before $0.93 of impairments, vs. loss of $0.06, in line with lowered guidance. Sales fell 34% from year ago, and 22% from Q2. Results were hurt by declining prices on its GaAs substrates and an LED production problem with its its largest customer, Agilent. We expect both problems to continue into Q4. With dwindling cash of $17 million, and projected losses for next several quarters, we view shares as speculative and would avoid them. /R.Tortoriello\\
