That's quite the thesis. It deserves a serious response, which I'll have to mull over.
As for a non-serious response, there's a post 9/11 joke that seems on-point:
George Bush has just wrapped up an address to the U.N., and as he's leaving the chamber he runs across the newly-posted Saudi ambassador.
"Mr. President," says the ambassador, "in my short time in America, I've seen many things, but there's one thing I don't understand. Perhaps you can explain it?"
"Well I'd sure be glad to help," Bush replies. "What don't you understand?"
"My son, you see, he has been watching American television, a program called Star Trek. In this program there are whites and blacks, Russians, Chinese, even a Pakistani, but no Arabs! Why are there no Arabs in Star Trek?"
Bush laughs, puts his arm around the Saudi's shoulder, and whispers, "Because Star Trek is set in the future." |
