isopatch,
Freeze their butts indeed, ggg. Remember all the hype end of August beginning of September about a warm El Nino winter, bandied about on the media and some threads (even mentioned here)?

Well, new, weak to moderate El Nino's OFTEN are cold the first half of winter at least. That's solid statistics, so much for the media.

While I am confident the first months of winter will be quite cold, giving us a net below normal for the season, the question remains how much of a thaw will we get??

I am waiting for a few more natural indicators to call the close of the winter, but so far it is looking like the inevitable thaw will be sweet for winter haters, but brief in term. The main question that remains is how early spring will come and if the winter will drag on. It is easier for me at this stage of the game to read the natural indicators than to forecast El Nino strengthening (or not) in three months.

Again, not a confirmed call yet, but natural indications are so far it will be a severe winter, it will be long winter, with probably two short periods of respite (say two weeks or less) around mid month Jan Feb or Feb Mar.

I'll try and wrap that up and confirm it in a week or two.

Edit, I forgot to mention, around the holidays expect no respite, it should be Currier & Ives time!!

Best Regards,

Roebear
