According to a survey by the psychologist, David Myers in 1998--32% of "average" Americans said they were happy. I suggest to you that this is a much higher number than you would get in Iraq and Iran and Ethiopia. It is a sad world. Even for we happy few...it is a sad world...barring those with delusions and protective blinkers. The suffering and arbitrary unfairness makes it sad for all people with normal intelligence and a modicum of feeling. This is not to deny that fortunate people can be well fed, and also have some form of decent treatment when they are dying from disease. Mother Teresa used to tell them they were being kissed by Jesus when they cried out in their agonizing pain--rather than spend any of the millions of dollars on painkillers. I don't know if her kind words made them any happier, but I am sure it made her feel pretty well. So I agree with your point that people can delude themselves into being happy if they dissociate from the suffering of those around them.

As to your other statement. I could not make any sense of it. Sorry.
