the issue will highlight the types of Bankruptcy

Chapter 13 -- restructure
Chapter 7 -- funeral with burial

the ATT dispute and battle will hinge on the restructure of WorldCom debts and obligations
most people are not aware of the distinctions

Ch13 involves continuation of operations with potentially massive paring down and sale of business units, with each obligation discussed and settled, which might come to a negotiation of 30-50 cents/dollar on debts, firesale purchases of assets for similar costs, etc... in the end you have a healthier but smaller financial entity surviving

Ch7 matches assets to debts, takes ratios, liquidates, and passes out money to debtors according to ratios... in the end you have no more financial entity in existence

interesting stuff, and a real advantage to our economy over others like Japan
they allow "DeadManWalking" to walk and infect other healthy businesses
we force into Ch7 or Ch13, with full or partial plowing under

gonna be a lot of plowing to take place
here is a legal tidbit to chew on
the American Bar Assn has announced that the greatest influx of lawyers has been occurring into BK law
in the mid-1980's the influx was into investment banking and corporate
tracking ABA movement is a key to trend changes within an economy
but Lazlo probably already knew that
