I can well accept that you moved away from the point of view you were brought up in. I would be surprised if anybody could survive St. John's and not have that happen, though that might be because the college is to some degree self-selecting for rebels. But that is, in my opinion, a far cry from having the necessary mindset to be a dissident in a totaliarian police state. Do you really think that you would have had the character to spend five, ten, fifteen years in a Siberian prison and continued to remain outspoken in opinions violently contrary to the officially accepted views?

Not I, I can say that for sure. And not many people I know. And not, from what you have written here, I think you, either.
