That letter brings to mind a question. What would have been the best way to survive the Argentine crisis?

Flee the country? Sure, your wealth would still be tied up in the banking lockup and depleted by devaluation, but at least you could work and provide for your survival. But what about family? Do you stockpile airplane tickets to evac them too? Would airplane tickets be worth anything? Can the airlines still buy fuel?

The degeneration of argentina into relative chaos disturbs me, to say the least. That it could become a worst case scenario, I don't even like to consider.

I understand some would say buying gold/silver has proven worthwhile in SE Asia, perhaps Argentina and Brazil, but I wonder in such a situation of social chaos, where the means of production are dissassembled by hungry people for scrap, if gold/silver would truly provide sanctuary for those living in a gated community.

BWDIK?
