How do you know the Khmer Rouge wouldn't have gained power anyway? US bombing in Cambodia was aimed at the North Vietnamese who were using Cambodia as a transport route and base of operations. Didn't the presence of all those foreign communist soldiers in Cambodia have a destructive effect on Cambodian society in and of itself? The Khmer Rouge came to power after America threw in the towel in Indochina.
