Hey. I am looking for a term here. Lets say there is an argument that is clearly resolvable given some specific critera. However, we, enter an element to the argument that is to complicated on its own to resolve that the initial argument gets held up.

For example:

If we could prove the exact moment that a fetus is human enough to declare that it has totally equal rights, the abortion debate would be greatly simplified.

Or, If the age of this boy were not a factor, his sentencing would be easy to determine.

Is there a term or phrase for adding an element to an argument that makes an otherwise resolvable thing, irresolvable?
