mystery man,

Bonds is easily the most talented baseball player of his generation, and is closing in on "all time" records. He set the record last year for most home runs in a single season - 73. He is also abrasive, arrogant, self-centered, and by all accounts a difficult teammate (to put it mildly). He seems to wear a sign on his chest that says "Yes I think I'm God, so what are you gonna do about it?"

Imagine a Cassius Clay (in some respects, at least) in a team sport where he clearly flaunts the notion that the team's rules don't apply to him because he's better than everyone else. Throw in a guy that hasn't always gone all out when he thinks it doesn't matter with a guy that seems to make sport of insulting the media (not that that is a capital offense itself but it sets him up for always portraying himself in negative light) and give him Hank Aaron/Joe Montana(John Elway?)/Wayne Gretzky/Michael Jordan ability, and you have an idea of what Bonds is like. Most folks who know him don't seem to like him; I'm content to marvel at his skill on the field.
