Yes, it seems simple enough to me. X is convinced that the it is at the core of fanatacism, which to me seems an obvious contradiction. People who participate in society without conscience to guide them are likely to display psycopathic or sociopathic behavior. This is not just my opinion, it is the generally accepted view on this well researched subject. People who engage conscience to deliberate over difficult choices are not likely to behave in the extreme.

X is trying to redefine the application of conscience to mean behaving with adherence to some moral or ethical code, or something.

It is impossible to have a meaningful discussion when the participants are constantly redefining the terms in order to talk past one another. In any event, it seems this topic has had enough coverage.
