Ns: I meant to highlight the following passage in the piece I posted last night since it referenced the relocation/export of service industries to lower cost India.

"It has enabled companies to outsource activities such as accounting, telemarketing, software writing and e-mail help desks to low-cost English-speaking venues such as Ireland and India, Roach noted."

We are also seeing it in the Caribbean with our local phone company consolidating and moving their internet help desk to be serviced from Jamaica which has lower labor costs. Prior to this companies always employed local personnel in these tasks providing excellent training beforehand. It is always a good political move, as well as good business sense, to train and employ as many indigenous personnel as possible, as well as having politicians as directors. This allowed them to keep rates high ($1000/month for a DSL connection.) Competition has led them to cut rates but also trim expenses.
