Nickel deposits have specific geological and geophysical characteristics that make exploration for them different than for other metals. One geophysical technique that has proven to be very successful is the down-hole, three-component UTEM, a system developed by Lamontagne Geophysics with financial assistance from Inco. This system indicates the direction and distance to conductive bodies and has helped with the discovery of several deposits in the Sudbury area, including the high-grade Totten deposit. Using stochastic simulation of mineral deposits - an advanced statistical technique - we are able to quantitatively evaluate the most appropriate mining technique for a deposit and analyze the economic risk associated with the tonnage and grade estimates. Inco supports several university-based research groups that investigate the genetic processes that form nickel deposits and the geological structures that host them.

This test has been done at Cobalt Hill and Flag is still waiting for the results...
