Paul, of course you are correct. I wonder too about the traders that seem to populate SI. They must have Schedule D's that are 50 pages long. But I was holding calls, not shares, and they had to be sold eventually. Intel's own projections were that Q3 is going to be a relatively unremarkable quarter. The alternative to selling would have been to drip time value in a volatile market holding an issue that I think is fully valued for the moment. Frankly, I just didn't have the stomach for it.

The only thing worse than paying taxes on trading gains... is not paying taxes.

Obviously, if you have a secret method to gain substantial leverage AND minimize the tax bite, please e-mail immediately :)

P.S. Do you disagree substantively with my short-term doubts about Intel?
