As long as waves 2-4 form the diagonal, the length of the first wave is irrelevant. It's the peak of wave 1,3,and 5 and the trough of wave 2 and 4 that are important. Also, it is possible that the rise off the low is 5 waves and that ED is the 5th wave only which still terminates the pattern.
