I currently am using DSL through SBC even though I live in NY - it was an Etrade promo a few years back that they stopped, but I still have the service (paying for it). The problem is, that if I need tech support, there is none! Since Etrade eliminated the service they got rid of the support division. When I call SBC I speak with close to six people before anyone can even bring up my account, only to be told that they have no clue why I have their service if I live in NY. I decided that the best thing to do is to change the isp to Verizon which is the dsl carrier for NY.

Well I just ordered it from Verizon and was told that I would need to do a complete new installation. They will send a new modem and a kit with software and they will be using my second telephone line as the dsl connection. My present SBC connection actually has a separate DSL line that isn't connected to any of my phone numbers. This dsl line has two computers working off a Linksys router. What will I have to do when this new kit arrives besides plugging it in to a different line, and installing their software - I'm talking in terms of the router - will it have to be reconfigured with Verizon's setup? Has anyone ever changed isp services while using the same router?
