Officials do not blame the world slowdown to the performance collapse, but rather chalk it up to self-inflicted wounds, including a growing tax burden, over-regulated labor makrets and a relentless rise in the government share of the economy.

But haven't they backed up their currency with a large percentage of gold??

How could this scenario occur?? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)..

Europe has some tremendous problems with its social liabilities. It desperately needs economic restructuring and maybe the EU federalization plan could provide the impetus.

The US definitely has some problems, but at least we're taking greater steps towards "taking our medicine" than is Europe or Japan.
