BLACK HAWK MINING INC. (TSX-BHK) announced today that on
October 24, 2002 some employees at Black Hawk's Limon Gold Mine in
Nicaragua went on what the Company properly considered to be an
illegal strike.

The Ministry of Labour representatives were at the mine site on October
25th and 26th, at the request of the Company, to make an inspection of
the work stoppage and reported their findings to the Minister. On
October 28th in the p.m. the Minister declared the strike illegal. In
declaring the work stoppage illegal, the striking employees were given two
days to report back to work or risk permanent replacement as per the
Nicaraguan Labour Laws.

Presently, approximately one third of the union employees continue to
work and the mill is operating at a reduced capacity processing ore from
underground and open pit sources. Company staff employees and
contractors are also working and the operations are at 50% of capacity
and necessary supplies continue to be delivered.
