Bill, not sure if you caught my edit but it looks like Mongols did not start out as Buddhists. Someday I'll put together a time-line to figure out the effect of Buddhism on their activities. One thing is for sure, they really wrecked some of those Islamic societies. Whole cities in Central Asia were destroyed for not paying tribute.

I personally seem to lack the genes for religion and can't relate to all these folks who think they have the one true religion. But I guess such beliefs bequeath an evolutionary group-bond advantage against competing groups. Which now may be obsolete given the existence of wmd that could destroy the human race.
