When my son turned 18 last year, he received a notification to register with the Selective Service....a sobering moment for me considering the group of advisors around Bush.. and for him figuring out what it all meant at this point in his life. We talked about what happened to me going into the service in 67...about conscientious objectors...and some of my friends that took off for Canada.

I know I've mentioned this before....it's important to have good strategists around the President, however it's also important to understand what it is like to be around a bunch of 19 year olds, whose breath stinks, smell, are scared to death and look 10 years older than they really are. It provides some balance to the conversation and demolishes any macho images they may have about the consequences of what they are doing. Other than Powell, Bush really doesn't have that perspective around him.
