Verizon to Expand Corporate Data Services Verizon, which uses Visual Uptime for the management of its data networks with its "Framewatch" product, is about to begin a billion dollar expansion of its data access and transport network. "Verizon serves the densest telecom corridor in the world. They have most of the Fortune 500 (companies) as customers. What they're trying to get is incremental revenues from their existing customers both in (their home) region -- aided by long distance entry -- and also going nationwide to cherry pick the (most lucrative) opportunities," said Kaufman Bros. Inc. analyst Vik Grover. Verizon is expected to spend about $1 billion through 2005 as its builds a data access and transport network and connects major markets. The data project could generate about $5 billion a year by 2007, Grover said. investor.cnet.com www22.verizon.com This shows that data networking continues to be a growth business. Companies such as Verizon are looking beyond the current weak economy and the current low level of business spending and investing huge amounts of money to get ready for the time when business conditions return to normal and their enterprise customers are ready to spend some money on upgrading their data networks. Verizon is expecting to bring in billions of dollars in new revenue by expanding its data networks. With more and more mission critical applications being placed on data networks every day, the performance management of these networks also becomes more and more important. In my opinion there is going to be a lot of pent up demand for VNWK products once business conditions return to normal and businesses start spending on IT projects again. Certainly VNWK sales to Verizon will increase as Verizon spends $1 billion on upgrading its data network and Verizon data revenues increase by billions of dollars. Byron
