Interesting book.

Plane load of English choir boys crash on a tropical island. We have a very good little boy, with a highly developed sense of right and wrong (he refers often to what his Auntie would do, or say, or expect), and a conflict between two charismatic boys for the leadership spot (a conflict between good government and bad), and a boy that is just evil. There is also a "beast" on the island (basically a figment). It is a very depressing book. Golding's view of humanity is the opposite of Rousseau's. Man is not a noble savage- he is an ignoble savage. Good will be a martyr to ignorance and savagery. In other words the book is a real upper :-)
