I wasn't aware that SPYs were only sold in round lots, but even if that's so, a 100 share order at Friday's closing price would run $9,127. Even with Fidelity's relatively high commission of $25 for the transaction, that would only be 0.27%, hardly a heavy front end load.

Note: I just checked with Fidelity and they do not require round lots. Maybe you're citing a broker specific restriction?
