Yeah, kinda like the "independent investigation into 9-11 intelligence failures"... officially they are all for it, the President "changed his mind" a month or two ago and claims he's for the probe - but just when the Select Intelligence Committee was about to vote to call for an independent probe last Friday, they took a short recess and Cheney called the ranking Republican on the committee, and when he got back he switched his position and they broke without having the vote....

Guess they hope the idea will quietly die over the winter during the recess....

Perhaps if a new Iraqi war can get off the ground by January, everyone will forget about having a probe into failures (of course, the 9-11 survivor families who have been most stridently calling for an impartial investigation are not going to forget... but perhaps the rest of the public will.)
