IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems Inc -
Mack Trucks to get real-time, on board diagnostic system
IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems Inc IVMShares issued 148716031997-07-22 close $0.82Wednesday Jul 23 1997Mr James McCarney reports Further to a news release in Stockwatch November 1 1996 and a news release May 28 1997 regarding the relationship between the company and Mack Trucks, the following news release was published by Mack Trucks. The company continues to work closely with Mack Trucks and anticipates that further news and details on this continuing relationship will be released in the near future. Mr Stephen Tercha of Mack Trucks reports Mack Trucks and IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems have entered into an agreement to offer Mack customers SmartLink, a new diagnostic and life-cycle vehicle management tool. The system, a Mack exclusive after-market product, uses computer technology and wire communications to analyze, in real time, a vehicle's location, performance, and overall operating characteristics. SmartLink provides information that is able to alert fleet managers and dispatchers of pending events. It is an invaluable service tool that can detect a fault in the early stages of a vehicle system failure, so that action can be taken to correct the problem while it is still manageable. The end result is minimized vehicle downtime and increased productivity. With SmartLink, even intermittent problems are recorded on the system's computer and then transmitted to a remote diagnostic site. The vehicle's operation can then be monitored in real-time, if desired, with data files generated and analyzed as troublesome events occur. The system incorporates the Global Positioning System to track the vehicle's geographic location across the globe. In addition to providing a valuable service with respect to vehicle maintenance, it also acts as a theft deterrent. If stolen, the exact location of trucks equipped with GPS can be identified quickly and accurately. The system has been designed to be flexible for all its users. Data generated by SmartLink is readily exportable into a wide variety of spreadsheet, database, and fleet data management programs. The system is also tied into Mack's 24 hour road assistance program. Trained technicians are always on hand to help diagnose a problem, immediately dispatch roadside assistance, or arrange for towing to the nearest Mack authorized facility, if needed.
