That helps for exports. I am not so sure it will help domestic demand. The reality is that the US consumer is getting pretty close to being tapped out. We saw bad debt provisions go up at American Express. The layoff can't be making everyone feel secure about spending either.

How are housing prices doing in your area of the country? I see quite a few for sales signs here in Vancouver. I think people were afraid they are going to raise interest rate (which they did earlier in the years). The market has cooled quite a bit since then. It is still pretty strong from what people have told me.
