There's a lot of space between pretending to be someone's friend and simply avoiding provocation.
True. But that long, bad history stuck its ugly head in here. If you recall, I did not provoke her on SMBR; in fact I stayed clear of her- -intentionally. But there were others who would not. And there was the provocation.

You may also recall that some months back I offered X a quid pro quo "let bygones be bygones" agreement. She threw it back it my face. It was an honest, serious offer on my part. The "I don't make deals" X would have none of it.

It takes two to tango or tangle in this sort of thing, Karen. You can't have a world where X or anyone else is free attack someone or a group and they are forever expected to hold their fire. It ain't gonna work. A truce depends on both parties.

A theory that WE or any one of us forced X to do anything is one she herself would call ludicrous (I'm pretty sure). She made her own free choice about where she ended up. It may have been a mistake our part, but I'm not sure it was avoidable. And she is hardly the only casualty in this war.
