David,
Thanks for the links. I'll look into it on my next project. Still, the whole idea about retail isn't finding places where items may be mail ordered. It's about being able to fill an immediate need for products. Before being bought out by Lowe's, Eagle stocked oak interior doors, both finished and unfinished. If they didn't have enough in stock to fill an order, they were able to get more within a matter of a few days. My main complaint hasn't changed. Basic items I was able to purchase as 'walk in and load the cart' are no longer available as a walk in customer and the turn around time on special orders is unreasonably long. Unusual items I expect to special order and am able to plan ahead, but what we're talking about would be like going to the grocery store and having to special order whole milk because 60% of the milk buyers use 2%.
On the off topic of sharing mail order links and building tips, someone might find this one interesting: kcfixture.com
If you've ever gotten fed up with those little round pieces of wood breaking because you hung more than 4 shirts on it, try the commercial brackets. The chrome pieces look fine in a closet, they're strong, it's super easy to reconfigure, and hangers slide a lot easier on the rod, plus the brackets don't get in the way of sliding. Having a couple of shelves and a hanging rod over the washer and dryer also comes in handy. |
