I agree with much of it, though not all.
But I agree with you that it has the potential to annoy many liberals. Especially those who let others do their political thinking for them.
And I can see how it would amuse you! <g>
Did you notice the posting I made from the Seattle Times? I have a suspicion that you will agree with the Boy Scouts. Am I correct?
I'm hoping X will find time to slip her 17 cents worth in. Yes, X, I know you're an agnostic, not an atheist, but you would still be unable, I assume, to take a Scout oath that said ""On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country,"'
It raises two questions.
1. Should the Scouts be permitted to keep this oath and require it of all who want to join the Scouts (note that the USSC has alreaddy decided that they are a private organization and so not subject to the 1st Amendment),
2. If so, should they be allowed to prohibit people who can't take the oath from joining, and
3. If people were able to take that oath at the time they joined, but their views have changed and they are no longer able to subscribe to it, what should the response to them be?
All three, I think, interesting quetions. |
