if you want one man's humble opinion, COF is worse. MUCH more competitive business, and COF is watching their cost of capital go up at the same time that returns are compressing. not a good sign when the whole point of your business is to make a spread.

HI's business practices are worse (frankly IMO worse than any company in the world; the way they rip people off is just epic) but for the time being until they lose a gigantic lawsuit (which will happen soon enough) i think they might just skate by.

of course this is the equivalent of arguing who is more stupid, Paul O'Neil or Glenn Hubbard.
