I was always picked first for games because I was a natural athlete. But we never had hockey teams per se except on the rarest occasions. Farms were too far apart. I was also the best wrestler and all of that.

One field day when we went into town a group of boys were talking smart, and wanted me to fight one of them. I was painfully shy and never bore any ill will, but it was an opportunity to do what I loved to do..win. Next second I was on my back. I was extremely confused, and I willingly accepted another joust. Flippety-flop...on my back! I turned to my cousin who also had a pretty good rep, and I said (hopefully)..."you try him, -----! He just shook his head slowly from side to side...

Well, it turned out that this litle punk was a judo expert. He probably ended up on skid row, the smart alecky little city boy...<g>
