Yep, rural. The Republicans picked the only candidate that could possibly lose to Davis. You probably know that Davis' challenger in the Republican primary; Riordon, would have won easily but Simon was the choice of the right wing party faithfull, helped along by a huge independent spending push in the primary on Simon's behalf by--of course, Gray Davis himself.
