Perhaps I missed it, but the list of objections didn't include mine, which was ... A national sales tax would have the effect of double-taxing the sales-taxable expenditures of preexisting non-IRA savings that were net of income taxes. Ditto for any sales-taxable expenditures made with the proceeds from sales of assets accumulated with after-income-tax earnings prior to the sales tax taking effect.
