Cary's probably in mourning today re: republican victory. But more than that, Bush turned out to be quite savy in spending some political capital to win those close races in the senate. Dems last weapon now is the Filibuster and it will not serve them well politically to use it too often. So we can look for the legislative logjam to lessen. I think its a good thing for the republicans to get their shot at enacting an agenda--so now we are like the Parliamentary democracys where a party gets its shot. Mike
PS Too bad about Mondale. They roped him in to coming out of retirement to be senator--something he did not seemed enthused about. And he lost because at a funeral Republican dignataries were booed. Dems lacked class there and in NJ where unfortunately for us all, Frank Lautenberg-another one of the geriatric senators is back because of a sleazy deal. Suspect that sleazey deal cost them more nationally than NJ was worth.
