Jorj, yesterday I was watching Oprah ... the segment was about how American's don't pay enough attention to the rest of the world and our role in it and how we are perceived by others.

They interviewed many people from places like Jakarta and Colombia and France, etc... and just about all of the interviewees said that their dislike for our policies is firmly rooted and that American's need to start paying attention to how we treat the rest of the world.

Whilst they like our products and conveniences, they abhor that our culture is seeping in and destroying many of the traditions and values that have kept them going for so long.

Most people also said that they wouldn't want to live here - that the American dream to many has become more of a guarantee that your family won't stay together and that people are more apt to attack eachother here personally and otherwise than to contribute to the common good. So long as we have money, we can behave any way we wish (and a number of these people said that they wouldn't be surprised if we are attacked by terrorism more in the future because of how we are - the Ugly American)

Pretty interesting stuff.

All the soccer mom's in the audience were aghast that American's (or our gov't) could be looked down on by anyone...
