The media piece in the link shown below demonstrates classic Gorilla power. Competitors of Qualcomm might be being forced to lower royalties because of their other competitive disadvantages. Of course total cost of ownership involves much more than royalty payments, but that's the only part of the total cost that Qualcomm's competitors can address to make their products more appealing. Cost of conversion to advanced generations of technology and cost of spectral efficiency are hugely important aspects that they can't lower.

On the other hand, the complex issues involve the fact that Qualcomm's competitors are also in Qualcomm's value chain. Keeping our eye on the ball requires a lot of discipline and focus.
